Savannah was in her and Johnny's room, laying on the bed in pajamas and holding onto the bear Johnny had gotten her for Valentine's Day. She wasn't up for going to class -- or even leaving her room -- right now. She had phoned Ms. Atreides to let her know why she wasn't going to be there and was now going over her favorite fairy tales in her mind so she could complete the suggestions her teacher had given her.

Nine months in Cairo and only three days had passed here! The whole time thing made her head spin and give her a headache.

She supposed that some time soon she should go through the satchel she had brought back through time, but right now, she was in no hurry to move from the bed -- or the relief that she was back where she belonged.

Being lost in time because of evil angel statues.

One more thing she could never tell Paige, or the Pack or the Cortezes or the Vasics...

"Something your not-really-but-close-enough big brother can do?" he asked, half-playfully.

"Brownies," she said. "Brownies fix everything."

Anders's jaw went slack, his face went a bit pale, and he twitched.

Please note the complete lack of any verbal reaction whatsoever.

"You don't like chocolate?"

It took several more minutes of squeaking before, red-faced, Anders finally managed in a tiny, tiny voice, "Brownies evil."

"How are brownies evil?"

Anders muttered something through his hands that, if Savannah was listening very carefully, might sound something like "Stupid fertility magic."

It might sound like that. Maybe.

"Why would you play with... did you get Phoebe pregnant?!"

It was the logical question when he said fertility, after all.

The tips of his ears, about all that was visible since he'd covered his face so thoroughly with his hands, turned even brighter red. "I -- no! Bel . . . and me . . . it wasn't in this universe, but still!"

She still didn't understand.

"You and Bel got Phoebe pregnant? Wow... that's some powerful fertility magic."

"No!" Anders took one hand away from his face to flail it around incoherently. "I'm the one who -- because of brownies!"

Honestly, you'd think he'd be over this by now.

"How did brownies get her pregnant?"

Yeah, she still didn't understand what he was saying.

"No," Anders mumbled. "Not her. Me."

Savannah stared. "Whu?"

"Yeah, that was my reaction . . ."

"How is that even possible?"

Anders's jaw twitched, and he looked like he was fighting to keep the rest of his body from twitching along with it. "Brownies," he said succinctly. "Evil, sneaky magic brownies. I don't know exactly! You'd have to ask the other me!"

Savannah made a soft noise. "Time travel and alternate universes give me a migraine."

"You're telling me," Anders said ruefully. "Seriously, little sis . . . I'm really glad you're okay. Your brother and I were talking about you last night, y'know."

"You were?"

"Yeah. He came into Caritas, and we were both worried about you," Anders said.

That made her feel even more guilty.

"I hated being away from everyone... and I'm really all Sean has. His other relatives are assholes, Anders."

Not to mention they wanted her dead. She didn't think Anders needed to know that.

No, he really didn't. "He's a good guy," Anders said gently, putting an arm around her shoulders as if he understood she felt bad about making them worry. "He deserves an awesome little sister like you."

"I would never have chosen to disappear."

"Hey," Anders said, looking at her seriously. "I know you wouldn't. Don't even think for a second I blame you for any of this."
