Most Of Friday After Period 2, Room #217

Savannah hadn't gotten home until late last night, so after her class she was pretty tired...

...except she just couldn't sleep.

She was thinking about the time she had spent with Johnny and how nice it had been.

However, she was still replaying the conversation from the phone call yesterday.

The one from the brother she hadn't known she had.

Savannah rolled over and made a few phone calls. She needed to talk to someone about all of this.

"Are you okay? What's wrong?"

No, Chris didn't believe in small talk.

"I... I have a brother."

"Did something happen to him?" Chris asked.

He wasn't exactly quick on the uptake sometimes.

Savannah could tell he didn't understand.

"No... I have a brother."

It took a moment. "You didn't know?"

Savannah shook her head. "He's my half brother... Sean Nast."

"Half brother on which side?" Chris asked.

"My dad's... "

"Are you in danger?"

Savannah looked at him and there was misery in her eyes. "Not from Sean... but the rest of the Nast Cabal want me dead because of something I've done."

Chris didn't seem sure about that, but he nodded. "What happened?" he asked gently.

"I'm the reason Kristof is dead."

"... what?"

"I'm the reason my father is dead," she said quietly, sitting down on the bed. She offered him a seat. "I'm the one who... who killed him."

Chris sat down next to her and immediately reached for her hand. "What happened?"

"He told me he would keep Paige safe. He promised me. Then Leah -- an enemy from before -- showed me someone carrying Paige's body from my father's house." She clenched her fist against her knee. "I exploded. I wanted my mom back. I needed her back because she had never let me down and I knew she would help me. I took the Grimoires and I started calling things up, trying to bring my Mom back. He... Kristof... he tried to calm me down... and I shoved him away."

Savannah squeezed her eyes shut, but a tear still escaped. "I didn't think I shoved him that hard... but my power was already growing. He... he hit the stone wall."

This was the second time in less than twenty-four hours that she had told the story and she was having a ahrd time with the reliving of it.

Chris wrapped his arms around her. "It wasn't your fault, Savannah," he said. "You didn't do it on purpose."

"No, I didn't," she said softly. "Sean seems to be the only Nast that doesn't want me dead."

"That's something at least," Chris said. "Why did he make contact with you?"

"He says that he would like to get to know his baby sister because I'm family."

"Do you trust him?"

Savannah sighed. "I want to, Chris... I'm just... I haven't even met him and I guess I'm a little nervous." She bit her lip. "He did call the only head of a Cabal that I trust. Benicio Cortez is pretty much my pseudo grandfather. Sean called him to get my number. Cabal families do not go to other Cabals to talk."

Chris frowned. "Didn't you tell me that cabals are dangerous?"

"Extremely so, which is why we avoid them. However Lucas Cortez is the one who helped me and Paige when... when people were trying to destroy her and take me away. He gets a pass from all of that because he saved Paige. He's one of the few nice sorcerors. He has all of the power and is the favoured son of the head of the Cabal, but he wants nothing to do with Cabal politics. Benicio is Lucas' father... and he likes me. He helped arrange it where I was hard to find." She gave him a small smile. "Benicio would do anything to be in his youngest son's good graces."

"So you think that Benicio wouldn't have given Sean your number if he didn't think it was safe?" Chris asked.
