Once again, Savannah was on the beach working with things that would make certain people either freak out or grow gray hair -- possibly both.

Currently, she was alternating between using force bolts and the breaking spell against one of the boulders on the beach. She knew that if she could just focus her energy enough, she could make the spells powerful enough to shatter stone.

She just had to figure out how to use the darker spells without collapsing in pain afterwards.

There had to be a way, and she would keep trying until she found it.

Savannah hadn't been able to sleep, and after hearing the radio, there was no way she could have relaxed.

That would be why she snuck out of her brother's place with her small back pack. First she went to the preserve where she managed to find a dead tree branch on the ground. It was just what she was looking for. She somehow got it out to the beach where she usually did her magic practice and set it up on the sand. She cast her shielding spell around her practice rng so that no one who happened to come by would be bothered by anything. After everything was prepared, she pulled out a grimoire to look up all of the notes she had written down on the Breaking spell she had been working on with Sean. Reading through everything twice, she placed the book back in her pack and then looked at the branch.

Focusing on the branch, she started reciting the spell in her mind, before extending her hands outward. The first and second time she cast the spell, she didn't see anything happen. The next few times, she thought she saw the branch shake. A few more attempts and she heard cracking. When the branch finally blew apart, Savannah dropped to her knees in exhaustion, panting and trying to deal with the pounding in her head that said she had used too much of her energy, as she looked at the pieces of bark scattered around on the sand.

After the memorial service for Bart, Savannah returned to her room. She changed into one of Johnny's t-shirts and a pair of flannel pajama pants, before grabbing her laptop and getting back into the bed.

She was still wiped out and feeling weak... and if she was honest with herself, part of it was her own fault for the way she had worn down her energy reserves both last week and while she was sick.

Sick with an illness that had killed a student.

She hadn't really known Bart, had only talked to him a couple of times at Turtle and Canary, but the fact of the matter was that he was a fellow student. He was a young kid, like her and Johnny and so many others. He didn't deserve to die.

He died from a plague that was purposefully created to wipe out people who were different.

It had killed everyone on the island three hundred years ago. It had made almost half of the island sick this week. It had killed someone. It could have killed them all.

The entire island was cut off and they all could have died -- and no one would have known. )

Savannah stopped typing and copied the e-mail into a notepad and saved it. She closed the e-mail program, but ended up leaving the notepad program open.

There was no way she could send that e-mail to Elena.

Savannah bit her lip, trying to stop the sobs that were bubbling up and threatening to overwhelm her. She just sat there, looking at the recap of the week she was writing.
