Room 217, Monday Afternoon/Evening

After classes, Savannah retreated to the comfort and relaxation of her room.

The weekend had been exhausting.

She had been happy to see Benicio, but there were times she was wound way too tight waiting to see what he was going to say or do. After all, he wasn't known for not making his views and wishes known.

She changed into a pair of leggings and a t-shirt she had "borrowed" from Johnny before dropping down on the bed with her notebook and Destiny.

The talk with Benicio on Saturday night had given her a great deal to think about.

Johnny came in after a shower. He'd been handwavily shooting hoops in the gym.

"Hey, babe," he said, going for a water bottle from the mini-fridge.

She looked up from her notes and smiled. "Hey, sweetheart."

"What're you doing?" he asked, indicating her notebook.

Savannah gave a small shrug. "Going over some things from different discussions with Benicio." She made a face. "Including that I have to do a better job at keeping him apprised of my magic lessons with Sean and Eve."

"Why do you have to do that? I mean, hell Savannah, does he have to know everything?" Because that's the way Johnny felt about Benicio.

She let out a breath. "Considering the only reason he's helping me train that side of my powers without letting Paige and Lucas know was on the condition that I keep him informed of my progress and how I advance." She looked at Johnny. "He is the one providing me with the access to the training that I need."

"Whatever," he said with a slight head shake. He didn't get that and thought it bullshit.

"He's got too much of a hold over you."

Savannah's eyes widened. "Excuse me?"

"He does," he repeated. "Think about it."

Yes, Johnny's logic was his own, dammit.

Savannah hadn't wanted to think about that. She didn't want to think about how much it was going to tear her apart when he left.

"I never wanted my safety to be a heavy burden on you, Johnny. I love you more than anything and I never wanted it to be your responsibility." She shook her head. "I can keep working to protect myself so you don't have to worry so much."

Her voice was sad.

"Stop it. It's not a burden. I never thought it was. What I want to know is who is going to protect you when I leave?"

She picked at the blanket, then looked at him. "Sean?" She ventured softly.

At that? He ran a hand over his face.

"Not good enough."

"Then I don't know," she said softly. "Sena and I are working on my powers... and Sean is working on his."

She swallowed. "I know that except in cases of invasion, I'm safe here... but..." She dropped her head.

"I don't know what to say to make you feel better," she admitted. "I could say that I would agree to a bodyguard next year if it made you feel better... but I don't know if I could stick to that."

Johnny stared at her. He might have to contact Benicio after all.

This situation sucked any which way you looked at it, and it was pissing him off because he wasn't sure how to fix it, or how to make it at least tolerable.

"What do you want me to say, Johnny? It's not like I can leave school when you do because I don't know if I'll be safe with you gone."

"I don't know, Savannah," he sighed. "My head's reeling here."

Eve knew that after the weekend, Savannah probably had a lot rolling around in her head. This would be why she was knocking at the door.

The door opened and Savannah called from the bed. "Come in."

"Hey," Eve greeted softly as she let herself in. "How you doing, kiddo?"

Savannah looked up from where she had buried her face. "I've had better days."

"What's wrong?" Eve asked, concerned. She sat next to Savannah on the bed. "Talk to me."

"Johnny's upset... he doesn't like the world I'm part of where there's so much danger to me," she sniffled. "He's not fond of Benicio, thinks he's got a hold over me or something."

"He's worried about who's going to keep me safe after he graduates." She ran a hand through her hair.
