Savannah was 21 today.

Huh. The time sure passed rather quickly when you weren't paying attention to it.

To celebrate today she had, well, nothing much. She had pondered dinner and that led to thinking about movies and then working on a new painting when inspiration surprisingly struck her.

Which was why she was now sitting on the couch with one of her favorite movies in the background, dressed in her pajamas with her sketchbook on her lap.

She'd party when she figured out what to do.

Savannah didn't look at the caller ID as she answered the phone.

"Hello?"

"Happy Birthday!" Isabel said cheerfully. "Let's pretend I actually sang the whole song for you."

"Isabel!" Savannah's mood picked up. "Thank you."

"No thanks necessary. I have presents for you and I'll get them to you as soon as the boy wonder is done dealing with the ghoul that refuses to die," she explained, annoyance evident in her voice. "Maybe I'll have him kidnap you - Wyatt, that is, not the ghoul - and bring you back here for dinner and cake."

"I was hoping that you meant Wyatt and weren't trying to set me up on a blind date with a ghoul..."

Isabel snickered. "I could if you wanted me to. I have to give him credit in a strange way. He's remarkably persistent in not just dying already. That kind of determination is kind of admirable."

"Yeah, I don't think he's my type," Savannah deadpanned.

"Understandable. There's not enough mouthwash in the world to deal with that whole flesh-eating thing."

Settling in on the couch, she shook her head. If she had weird dreams tonight, Isabel knew she had only herself to blame. "But anyway, random monsters aside, did you have a good birthday?"

"It's been different," she admitted. "The first birthday that ..." She swallowed. "Any way, the day has been pretty quiet."

That little falter was what Isabel had been afraid of and she cursed both the ghoul and the work schedule that kept her and Wyatt from visiting Savannah.

"Sweetie, you're living on Fandom Island, in the real world you work for a supernatural detective agency that gets you in all sorts of trouble. I'd think a little quiet is a good thing."

"I know, I do." She leaned her head back against the arm of the couch. "I guess I didn't expect it to be so hard."

"I wish it could be easier,"Isabel said softly. "But he was important to you. He mattered. It's going to take time."

"Can't I just find someone to cast a spell to forget so that I have to hurt so much when I think about him? I know I know people that can do things like for me."

She probably did. And without all that personal gain backlash to worry about. "Is that what you really want though? To forget so many years of your life? To really forget him completely? Even the good times?"

Savannah let out a long breath. "I guess not."

Instead of a ringing phone this time around, Savannah was getting disturbed by a quick knock on the door, before Angela made use of her set of keys (which she was not intending to hand back unless asked).

"Knock knock."

Savannah had just lifted her head when there was the knock so of course when she heard the key in the door and then the door opening, she was on her feet with a surprised grin.

"Ange?"

"The one and only." Angela let her bag slide off her shoulder and to the floor and grinned at Savannah. "You miss me?"

That answer was probably made clear by how quickly Savannah hugged her.

"Very much so."
