Room 217, Evening

Savannah was eighteen years old today.

She was sitting on her bed and there was a vase of roses on her nightstand and she was holding the bracelet Johnny had sent with the flowers. Johnny's gifts had made her smile -- and made her decide not to call Benicio about his gift. She knew everyone was going to freak about the car, but she was smart enough to know it was part birthday gift, and part bribe to forgive him for the last time they had seen each other. She placed the new keys on her nightstand and laid back against her pillows, playing with the bracelet and smiling like a dork.

She had the best and most thoughtful boyfriend.

"Hey birthday girl!" Isabel said immediately. "Having a good day?"

"Isabel! I'm eighteen!" Savannah said in a very cheerful voice.

"That's practically ancient," Isabel teased. "Found a grey hair yet?"

She laughed. "Not yet, but I'm surprised this weekend didn't cause a few of them to show up."

Given her course load and busy work schedule, Isabel had sort of lost track of what was happening in Fandom. "Why? What happened?"

"Parents Weekend."

Isabel facepalmed. That couldn't be good. "Oh god. Who turned up?"

"Let's see, Clayton, Elena, Benicio." She paused. "Bryce Nast."

The first three names were family and loved Savannah. They might give Savannah a headache, but they wouldn't hurt her. Bryce on the other hand...

"Are you okay?"

"Shockingly enough, he didn't try to kill me." She reassured her friend. "Then again, I think Sean threatened him with what would happen to him if he attacked me."

"Go Sean." And be thankful for small favors.

"What'd he want?"

"... you know, he never said," Savannah realized. "I mean, he was here to see Sean and he unexpectedly ran into me at the picnic."

"That was probably not the surprise encounter you wanted," Isabel observed. "At least he left without causing problems?"

"I pointed out that he would be a coward if he attacked me at a school."

"To say nothing of the fact that half the school would probably help you kick his ass," she pointed out.

"That's very true," she agreed. "And Ghanima and Professor Skywalker were at the picnic. That would have been stupid as hell."

Isabel might have her differences with Anakin, but she knew he'd protect Savannah from a threat like Bryce.

"I forget, did he know you were in Fandom? Or is this going to be a problem?"

"Oh, he's known I've been here since I called his warehouse last year and threatened his delivery people because they were screwing with Sean's shipments," she admitted. "I just don't think he was expecting to see me this weekend. I'm betting he thought the island would be big enough where he wouldn't have to run in to me." She paused. "He's lucky that Clay and Elena didn't find out he was here -- and so am I. I would have been bundled off to New York so damn quickly."

"Small favors then. Still, watch your back just in case," Isabel warned.

"I will," she promised. "I don't trust him and he still scares me."

"Good. Remember that. Ultimately it'll help keep you safe." Hopefully. But given what she knew of Bryce, Isabel had her doubts.

Still, it was Savannah's birthday and a time for happier thoughts. "Did you get your present?"

"Ha!" she said triumphantly. "I win. Wyatt wanted to send you a giant stuffed bear. Which, while cute, wasn't that practical."
