Room 217, Thursday Afternoon/Evening

Savannah had come to the room after her Ethics final and swooped Destiny up to cuddle her. After standing in the middle of the room with the puppy for a few moments, she dropped down on the bed and started playing tug of war.

She was looking forward to Prom.

She was trying not to think about how many of her friends would be leaving after graduation.

Thus, playing with the puppy.

"Hey, babe," Johnny said, walking in with a couple Chinese boxes.

And that would be a smile. "Hi, sweetheart."

After setting the boxes on the desk, he laid down beside her, reaching out to ruffle Destiny's fur. "What's going on?"

She moved to lay her head on his shoulder. "Ethics final... hurt."

He turned his head enough to kiss her brow. "Poor baby. Can't handle a little demon?" he teased.

"Ethics," she said with a smile. "Not Invasions. I can handle demons."

"Oh, god, sorry. My head with no caffeine is driving me freaking crazy that and the mun is zomg out of it," he said, rolling over on his back.

"Tell me about Ethics."

"The first question was too... it was too personal, Johnny. You arrive home after an extended period away to discover your mother has been kidnapped. She's presumed dead. What do you do? I've lived that."

"Aw, sweetheart," he tried to soothe, wrapping his arm around her. "Ethics nearly always makes you question yourself and leave you feeling... emotional."

"Can I ask you something without making you feel like I'm pressuring or making plans or anything like that."

He looked into her eyes. "Of course, you can."

She took a breath. "One of the questions was You find out that your wife is pregnant, yay! But you also learn that she will die in childbirth." She shook her head. "The choices about what to do... they weren't easy. They were Make the most of the time you have left, or Look frantically for a cure. If this means doing unsavory things for slightly creepy people, so be it.."

The muscle in Johnny's jaw clenched. He really wasn't liking Skywalker too much right now. "How did you answer?"

"I said that if I were to become pregnant and find out that I was fated to die -- and that would just be like the Fates to pull something like that since they seem to like screwing with my family so much, I would hope that it was more important to my husband that we enjoy what time we have left and that he be able to look back on our life before with joy and share those memories with our child."

Drawing quiet as she spoke, he realized he couldn't look at her. What kind of question was this to put to teenagers? Savannah was just sixteen. Alright, yeah, he knew the statistics of teenage pregnancy and marriage - still it wasn't a fair question. Not at all.

Savannah bit her lip, worried that she shouldn't have said anything. "It was a rough final."

Johnny pulled her in closer. "Yeah," he said quietly. "I'm sorry you were faced with such questions and you would want to know how I would answer that last one, don't you?"

Savannah curled into him. "If... if you don't mind me asking?"

"I... I think I would probably do what I could, Savannah, to try and find a cure. What if there was one out there? You know?"

Savannah nodded. "You wouldn't let someone you loved just die like that, no matter what you were told was going to happen."

"Never," he said, his tone serious. "How could I? No, there's no way, Savannah. I don't care what I had to do..."

Savannah smiled faintly. "I would never have thought you would. You could no more accept something like that and not do anything than I could if something was threatening the life of the man I loved." She shrugged. "Thank you, Johnny."

"Tell me something," he said quietly, "what would you do if it were my life in danger... would you stay with me, savor the days left, or search for something to save my life."

"You may not like the answer, Johnny, but I could never just accept fate and let you die." She turned her eyes to look at him seriously. "I would deal with the Nasts themselves if it meant that you would stay alive. I would spend as much time as I could with you... and I would find a way to save your life."

Johnny very rarely went deep with his emotions and this subject here was more than difficult to deal with. He wasn't exactly sure what to think about it. Neither one of them should. "I love you," he said, brushing his lips across her cheek. "For your incredible strength."

Savannah moved her head up to kiss him. "I love you."
