Room #217, Wednesday Evening

Savannah had heard Zoe's announcement and she wasn't really happy.

In fact, she was worried and annoyed as she remembered that Lana had never shown up yesterday.

That would be why she was sitting on the bed with her darker grimoire and notebooks. She was researching.

Okay, she might be trying to memorize darker spells in a hurry.

Just in case.

Johnny heard Zoe's announcement and made his way quickly back to the dorms from work to make sure Savannah was safe and inside.

The statues were creepy and he'd seen too many of them.

Walking in, he let out a pent up breath at seeing her sitting on her bed, and he closed the door behind him. "You heard?"

Savannah nodded, looking up at him.

"Lana's gone."

"Shit," he muttered and moved to sit down on the bed near her. "She could just be somewhere, Savannah," Johnny muttered, not really believing his own words. He remembered looking after Lana when Jim was gone.

This was not good. Not good at all.

"Savannah, please don't go out. Not without me."

"She never showed up at practice, Johnny. She wouldn't have missed it... and so soon after she and Chris broke up..."

Savannah's natural instinct was to dig her heels in and say she could fight... but she could tell he was worried.

She looked at him and tried to smile. "You planning on walking me to my classes and to work?"

Come on, she was trying to be brave even though she was scared.

Johnny wasn't aware that Chris and Lana broke up... or if he did, he must not have thought about it for long. He frowned and tried not to think about her missing. "She's okay, Savannah. I'm sure she is."

He really didn't want to frighten her with talk of angel statues and their creepiness and people disappearing, but he couldn't argue with her either. "No... I can't do all that. I have class too, but..." it was obvious he was frustrated.

"We have Invasions together... and I'm sure if I tell Sean what's going on he'll want me not to be out alone..."

She ran her hand along the book before closing it. "And I have this, too." She swallowed. "I'll be okay."

"We'll go to class together tomorrow then," he said, thinking as he glanced down at her book. "What are you planning, sweetheart?"

She shook her head. "Nothing yet... this book... it's the darker and more dangerous spells. I thought if I tried..." She bit her lip. "Maybe there's something I can do to help protect people..."

"I should do something. I can torch the statues, get rid of every damn one I see..." he said. "But... I don't get it and Savannah, your dangerous spells, you think that is such a good idea? We don't know what we are dealing with here."

Savannah looked at him and then looked down. "I don't know," she admitted. "I don't like... people just disappearing. I mean... there are people that it would hurt too much to lose and I'm... I'm scared."

She didn't like admitting that.

Johnny moved closer, took her hand in his and stared down at it, rubbing his thumb across the soft back. His jaw flexed; he was disconcerted and he didn't like the feeling. "Don't be scared, please," he looked over, ducking his head a bit to try and get her to look at him. "I'm here, I will do what I can to keep you safe... and to find out what is going on."

Savannah did look at him, and her hand tightened around his.

"Please... promise me you'll be careful, Johnny. Please. I need you to... to try to be careful until we know for sure what's going on." She knew he'd kep her safe, she believed in that.

But didn't always take his safety seriously... so she was willing to do that.

He assumed he was indestructable. Look what he could do, his powers? Johnny didn't think there was anything out there that could hurt him so he would do what he could to protect those he loved. And he loved Savannah.

"Don't worry about me, okay? I want you being aware of what you are doing and where you are at, at all times. And Savannah, stay away from the angels."

Like any mother, Eve knew exactly what Savannah would've thought of after the announcement. She beelined for Savannah's room to check on her.

Unfortunately, that was where her resemblance to normal mothers ended, as she had her own grimoires in a bag over her shoulder.

She knocked lightly at the door.

Savannah looked up.

"It's open."

Eve let herself in. "Hey, kidlet."

"I know. What the fuck?" Eve dropped the bag of grimoires on the bed before plopping down next to Savannah. "Figured you might be able to pick something up from these."

Savannah gave her a wan smile. "You know me so well."

"Of course I do," Eve said simply. "I'm your mother." She shrugged. "Besides, I figured that I'd be better off preparing you than trying to warn you against possibly doing something stupid."

She fixed her daughter with a Look. "And if you go and do something stupid, you damn well better bring me with."

"There's no one I would rather be stupid with." She frowned and shook her head. "That didn't come out right."

Eve burst out laughing. "No, it didn't, but don't worry. I know what you mean."

Savannah laughed. "That's good."

She sobered and looked down at the books before looking back up at Eve.

"I won't lose anyone else, Mom. I refuse to."

"I know, baby. I know." Eve reached out to touch her daughter's arm. "That's why I'm helping you."

Savannah opened one of her mother's grimoires. She frowned and pointed at something. "I've been working on a version of this spell that's a lower grade. I want to lean this one."

She hadn't picked just any spell. She had picked the sorcerer energy bolt spell.
